French Lick, Indiana (November 3, 2011) - The Pete Dye Course at French Lick has been named 2012 Indiana Course of the Year by the Indiana Golf Course Owners Association. The designation was announced during a presentation at the 2011 Golf Business Conference at French Lick Springs Hotel in French Lick on Thursday, November 3, 2011. Award sponsor Mike Kenney, of Kenney Machinery Corporation, Indianapolis, presented the award to Dave Harner, PGA, Director of Golf Operations, French Lick Resort. Conference Keynote Speaker, Indiana's Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, participated in the presentation along with Linda Rogers, President, Indiana Golf Course Owners Association, and Vice President, National Golf Course Owners Association.

The Course of the Year Award honors a member demonstrating four criteria:

  • Exceptional quality of the course
  • Exceptional quality of ownership and management
  • Outstanding contribution to its community
  • Signifcant contribution to the game
  • The Course of the Year Award winner comes from the Indiana Golf Course Owners Association's core membership, which make an outstanding contribution to the game in their markets, and are model operations to their peers. The winner is voted by the Board of Directors and is subsequently entered for consideration as National Course of the Year.

The Pete Dye Course at French Lick was cited for the marvel of building the course on Indiana's second highest point, with exceptional views of the horizon, and the exceptional quality of the course and its condition, along with French Lick Resort management's commitment to bringing world class golf to southern Indiana. The course added 50 jobs in the community and employs over 100 caddies, including 52 youth caddies, all under the direction of Jan Tellstrom, PGA.

Built by world-renowned golf course architect Pete Dye, construction began in 2006 and the course opened for play in April, 2009. The facility, along with the Donald Ross Course and the Valley Links Course, is owned by Cook Group, who purchased French Lick Resort in 2005. The course has been named America's Best New Public Course 2009 and Best New Course of the Year 2009 by Golf Digest and Golf Week's Best you Can Play 2011, and the Best New Courses 2009 by Links Magazine. The Pete Dye Course is Indiana's longest golf course, playing to 8,102 yards, with five sets of tees.

The Indiana Golf Course Owners Association's purpose is to promote the growth of golf and safeguard the common business interests of the golf course industry in Indiana and its golf-related operations. Indiana is one of 36 chapters affiliated with the National Golf Course Owners Association.
